Inappropriate Web Surfing by Senior Executive Pat Wiklund was called in to conduct an all hands, update training sessions for prevention of sexual harassment at a small, privately owned company. During the pre-training assessment, she learned that the real reason for the training was to deliver a message to one of the executives. He'd been using company equipment to spend considerable time visiting "adult" web sites during work hours. The president and other members of the executive team were uncertain how to tell him to stop. Pat was able to deliver a clear message, in private, during a pre-training briefing. Back up HR generalist projects and support: The new HR manager of a 100 employee technical services company was charged with establishing HR policies and procedures. Wiklund & Associates wrote a comprehensive employee policy manual, updating the few existing policies, writing new policies as needed and comparing the results with customary local and industry standards to insure consistency and fairness. They also wrote position descriptions for each level of the three different technical/scientific specialties, the managerial track and the admin/staff track. Employees in three sites were interviewed, managers queried as to the criteria they had used for leveling new hires and their expectations for granting advancement and salary increases. The final report contained a congruent career/salary ladder, consistent with local and industry standards, and an issue list with suggestions for resolving existing salary and leveling inconsistencies. return to top
