Clients | Are you ready, do you need to grow? Your people are excellent at the technical parts of their work, but you get bogged down in personnel issues, routine communication that goes cross ways and petty disagreements. Your technical managers are over worked, exhausted and unsuccessful in taking advantage of the expertise and resources of their own staffs. Employees are complaining about delays with standard employment procedures, lack of clarity in their job requirements, inaccessible managers, routine, low level tasks, no opportunity for growth, and/or lack of professional development. You may need to tap into the strategic value of the soft skills: You need a development program to bring your team's management and leadership skills to the level of their technical/professional excellence. We work collaboratively with our
clients to design and implement customized development programs that
target increasing both management and leadership skills. Expert input for Special Task Forces For required courses with executives and senior technical contributors Increase leadership and management expertise: A Technical Services Department was considered world class in their technical skills, but realized that their management/leadership skills were not up to that same level. We delivered a total assessment of the group and the managers with both internal and external customers throughout the university. The second phase is underway. We are implementing a variety of developmental activities for individual managers, development sessions for the management team, individual executive coaching, and team building sessions for some for the managers' staff groups. return to top Expert input for Special Task Forces: Dr. Pat Wiklund was the only non-federal employee to serve on a task force established by a Cabinet Secretary to audit the incidence of and interventions used for preventing sexual harassment in his department. Pat briefed his staff and agency heads on current prevention of sexual harassment trends and issues and her work with the headquarters staff. She provided input and structure to the data collection process and reviewed the final report before submission to the Secretary and distribution to the Department as a whole. return to top For required courses with executives and senior technical contributors: When a CEO mandated an all hands diversity awareness program, Pat Wiklund was chosen to conduct the sessions for the executives and senior scientists. Her experience with technical employees, advanced degree and willingness to confront head on the participants' annoyance at losing a day to mandated training led to high marks on the course evaluations and requests for further input in dealing with difficult diversity based issues within work groups. return to top
